As a Test Engineer, Camera and Sensing (Fixed Term) in the Spectacles department, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring our hardware delivers flawless optical performance, enabling immersive augmented reality for millions of users. In this role, you'll define cutting-edge test and calibration methods for cameras and optical sensors, developing algorithms and specifying test station hardware to meet the demands of high-volume AR production. You'll collaborate with third-party vendors to drive manufacturing, support tester bring-up with partners, maintain documentation, and analyze GR&R data. Troubleshooting test stations, debugging software/firmware, and conducting failure analysis with design engineers will be key, alongside up to 15% international travel to support factory builds. Your work will directly impact the quality of Spectacles' computer vision, sensor fusion, and depth sensing capabilities. We're seeking a talented engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science or related field, and 3+ years testing cameras or optical sensors in consumer electronics. Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, data analysis tools like JMP, and quality standards like GR&R/SPC are essential. What You'll Do

  • Define test and calibration methods for cameras and other optical sensors, including algorithm development and test station hardware definition
  • Drive test station manufacturing with third-party vendors
  • Support tester bring up in collaboration with manufacturing partners
  • Write and maintain tester documentation and review GR&R data
  • Troubleshoot and debug test stations, test software, and firmware releases
  • Support failure analysis through review of test data in collaboration with camera design engineers
  • Conduct international travel up to 15% to support factory builds
  • Develop innovative testing solutions to push the boundaries of AR camera technology in Spectacles
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality optical performance in next-generation AR glasses
  • Analyze test data to optimize sensor fusion and computer vision capabilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in testing of cameras or optical sensors for consumer electronics
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies and standards for cameras and optical sensing technologies
  • Knowledge of standard quality methodologies such as GR&R and SPC
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C++
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills using tools such as JMP, Python, or MATLAB

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or master’s degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science or related field
  • Experience developing and maintaining factory test and calibration stations for high-volume manufacturing
  • Experience with camera calibration and test techniques for computer vision, sensor fusion, active and passive depth sensing, and/or biometric sensing
  • Experience with robotics or instrument control automation
