Role Overview

As a Software Engineer 1, Mobile Apps in the Digital Experience Domain at Choice Hotels' Scottsdale technology center, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our native mobile applications. This position focuses on building best-in-class hospitality digital products that create seamless, elegant experiences for guests across their travel journeys. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering, you will collaborate with 5-6 peer teammates and cross-functional departments in a fast-paced, Agile environment. This individual contributor role demands proficiency in mobile development using Java, Swift, or Kotlin, alongside AWS knowledge, making it ideal for analytical minds ready to innovate in the hospitality sector.

Key Technologies and Environment

Work with modern tools like GIT for source control, Junit or Espresso for unit testing, and desirable skills in Android Architecture Components, Gradle, Jenkins, and UI/UX design. Leverage Unix/Linux systems and contribute to continuous integration processes, ensuring robust, scalable mobile solutions for brands like Comfort Inn and Radisson.

Key Responsibilities

In this dynamic role, your contributions will directly impact guest interactions with Choice Hotels' mobile apps:

• Write clean, maintainable code aligned with business and stakeholder requirements.
• Actively contribute to software engineering team efforts and deliverables.
• Communicate effectively with Product, Design, Analytics, and other cross-functional teams.
• Deliver complex, well-thought-out, bug-free code to QA for seamless testing.
• Participate frequently in sprint demo reviews and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements

We seek candidates with a solid foundation in software engineering and a passion for mobile development:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 1+ years of experience with Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting.
• 1+ years using source control systems, preferably GIT.
• 1+ years of hands-on mobile app development using Java, Swift, or Kotlin.
• Proficiency in writing unit tests with Junit or Espresso.

Desirable expertise includes Android Architecture Components, app release processes, Agile/Scrum/Kanban methodologies, continuous integration tools like Gradle and Jenkins, and UI/UX design principles. Exceptional analytical skills, verbal/written communication, interpersonal abilities, and adherence to software best practices—including coding standards, code reviews, build processes, testing, and operations—are essential.
