Join the MongoDB Server Query team as a Software Engineer 3, Query Execution and help build a world-class distributed open source query engine. This critical role focuses on the MongoDB Query Language lifecycle—from parsing and optimization to plan selection and execution. You'll work on geospatial search, update subsystems, and deliver exceptional performance for transactional, time-series, and analytical workloads in the modern developer data platform.

Based in Dublin, Ireland or remote in Ireland, you'll join a global team with presence across North America (New York, West Coast, Toronto) and Europe (Dublin, Germany, France, Netherlands, UK, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy). MongoDB supports flexible office-based and remote work aligned with convenient time zones.

The team solves fascinating problems with direct user impact in a distributed, flexible schema document database. Success milestones include fixing bugs in month one, contributing to major versions by month three, leading code reviews by month six, and driving major features by month twelve.

Key Responsibilities at MongoDB

• Understand and improve current functionality of the MongoDB query engine
• Identify, design, implement, test, and support new features related to query performance and robustness
• Enhance MongoDB Query Language capabilities for modern workloads
• Develop diagnostics tools for query performance problems
• Integrate query engine with MongoDB Atlas, client drivers, and enterprise tools
• Coordinate seamless changes in our feature-rich, large code base with engineering teams
• Collaborate with cloud services, support, consulting, education, and marketing teams
• Optimize geospatial search and update subsystems for real-world applications
• Drive innovations for transactional, time-series, and analytical workloads

Qualifications & Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in data intensive environments
• Hands-on experience building industrial-strength software
• Solid computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, software design/architecture
• Experience with large code bases and distributed systems
• B.Sc in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• C++ experience and database systems development (strongly preferred)
• Interest in database query engine theory/practice; hands-on experience or advanced degree (M.Sc./Ph.D) a plus
