Position Summary:

This role is responsible for providing the best possible energy program to Spartan for Retail and Non-Retail locations. This is done by understanding and forecasting current and future trends in the electric and natural gas markets, locking pricing down when it is the most advantageous to Spartan, building budgets and tracking the expenses in excess of $20,000,000 a year. Researching, recommending an implementing new products and processes that reduce our overall consumption of KWH, Nat. Gas and Water. This position is also responsible for reporting and tracking savings and update presentations to management on a periodic basis. 

Here’s what you’ll do: 

  • Review energy initiatives, investigate the payback opportunity, develop and issue RFP's to ensure best value. 

  • Continually monitor and assess performance, payback vs. reported cost savings. 

  • Maintain business relationship with Summit Energy to ensure best value is being brought to Spartan in terms of new laws, energy programs and energy pricing. 

  • Responsible for all utility bill payments. Coordinate outside Utility Bill Processing Companies daily services and reconcile all utility billing disputes. 

  • Close and open all utility accounts for new locations and sites no longer in operation. 

  • Provide billing information to Accounting upon request. 

  • Develop annual budgets for KWH, Natural Gas and Water. Track by period and report to management. 

  • Provide Technical Support to Maintenance group as it relates to systems that consume energy. 

  • Collaborate with outside Engineering firms on integration of energy efficient systems as they apply to stores offices and distribution centers. Includes review of drawings issued for new and remodeled buildings. 

  • Responsible for formulating, managing and reporting of the mandatory electric conservation program know as 'Self Directed Energy Optimization'.  The program results and an annual cost avoidance of $1M in additional meter charges on an annual basis. 

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. 

Here’s what you’ll need: 

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) Energy Management or Bachelor's Degree (Required) Engineering 
  • Ability to plan product and service requirements in order to support ongoing business 

  • Ability to measure supplier performance to expectation and recommended opportunities for improvement 

  • Ability to read, write and interpret contractual documentation 

  • Experience to have included individual accountability for a Minimum of $10,000,000 per year of purchases 

  • Proficient in MS Suite, PeopleSoft, and Lotus Notes 

  • Professional level of communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Posse's experience and/or adaptability to numerous software applications 

  • Decision making discipline and ability to determine efficiencies of action 

  • High level of mathematical skills
