Key Responsibilities at Rivian

As a Sr. Advanced Battery Control Engineer, you'll lead battery tech advancements with these core duties:

• Develop battery optimization algorithms for customer-facing EV applications, from concept to launch.
• Integrate sensors and gather experimental data to validate models at material, electrode, cell, module, and pack scales.
• Leverage statistical analysis, genetic algorithms, and ML to enhance DCFC, durability, and state estimation performance.
• Digest large datasets into descriptor models, correlating parameters and generating test sets for ML refinement.
• Build ML models predicting cell/pack lifetime, informing chemistry and form factor decisions.
• Optimize fast-charge algorithms using vehicle data, pack SOH, and route planning.
• Reconcile field data with aging models to predict end-of-life and address warranty issues.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with cell engineering, propulsion, thermal, and vehicle teams for BMS integration.
• Travel up to 25% for on-site sensor implementation and data collection.

Qualifications & Requirements

Rivian is looking for top talent with:

• PhD/Postdoc, MS + 2 years, or BS + 3 years in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, or related.
• Expert Python coding for datasets, rank aggregation, supervised/unsupervised ML, optimization, neural networks.
• Ability to implement algorithms into proof-of-concept cell/module/pack systems.
• Deep knowledge of lithium-ion electrochemical processes, optimizing energy, power, fast charging, cycle life, safety.
• Proficiency in multi-scale physics/thermal/electrochemical modeling with MATLAB, C++, ANSYS, COMSOL.
• Experience in P2D/ECM, Simulink, COMSOL, Abaqus, Fortran, C/C++, SQL, image processing, CNNs, graph neural networks.
• Research in next-gen battery tech, from state-of-the-art Li-ion to emerging chemistries.
• Strong communication and leadership for cross-functional projects.

Preference for automotive, consumer electronics, or cell manufacturing experience in lithium-ion batteries.
