Role Overview

As a Sr Engineer, Backend - Channel File Systems (Hybrid) in Toronto, Canada, you'll drive the development of high-scale backend services critical to CrowdStrike's Falcon platform. This hybrid role requires 2-3 days per week on-site once our Toronto development center is established. You'll tackle challenges in negotiating TLS, balancing network connections, managing virtual sessions, distributing dynamic content, and handling datastreams. Working closely with Falcon Sensor teams for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android, you'll design our proprietary Cloud Protocol, ensuring CrowdStrike scales to meet exploding global demand while stopping breaches at scale.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you'll own end-to-end backend engineering for channel file systems:

• Design and implement our proprietary Cloud Protocol, integrating with multi-platform Falcon Sensor teams.
• Scale backend systems through sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling techniques.
• Troubleshoot complex system failures across distributed service pipelines.
• Optimize performance for network protocols, multi-threading, concurrency, and parallel processing.
• Ship high-quality, unit-tested code via continuous integration, peer reviews, and test-driven development.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, support, and sales teams to deliver resilient, multi-tenant architectures.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed, you'll bring:

• A degree in Computer Science or equivalent hands-on experience in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Proven ability to scale backend systems—sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling as second nature.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems challenges, multi-threading, concurrency, and parallel processing.
• Experience shipping production software in cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong engineering practices: testing paradigms, peer code reviews, and secure, performant architecture.
• Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication for brainstorming and building collaboratively.
