Role Overview

As a Sr. Engineer, Backend - Lightning (Hybrid) on our Detections Platform team in Sunnyvale, California, you'll develop cloud services that deliver near-real-time security information to the Falcon endpoint agent. Operating under tight latency constraints at massive scale, this role involves building high-quality, scalable systems primarily in Go, with some Python. You'll tackle caching, backpressure, and partial responses to ensure reliability as threat landscapes evolve rapidly. No prior security experience required—we provide training—but a passion for our mission to stop breaches is essential. This hybrid position requires 2-3 days per week on-site, blending collaboration with flexibility in our remote-first environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this critical role, you'll contribute to the backbone of CrowdStrike's threat detection capabilities:

• Build and evolve cloud-based systems to detect and disrupt targeted attacks at global scale using the Falcon platform.
• Brainstorm, design, and implement elegant, performant solutions for complex technical challenges in Go.
• Read, critique, and guide code across languages like Go, Python, and Unix shell, fostering team excellence.
• Champion engineering best practices, including testing, peer reviews, logging, and resilient architecture patterns.
• Act as a self-starter, owning deliverables, leading teams, and gracefully delivering/receiving feedback.
• Collaborate on root cause analysis for production outages and implement preventive quality improvements.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Computer science background or equivalent in programming, data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• 8+ years of experience building and scaling production back-end systems.
