Key Responsibilities at Rivian

As a Sr. Platform Engineer, you'll drive efficiency across our engineering ecosystem. Here's what you'll do daily:

• Design and build robust, scalable CI/CD pipelines for diverse projects using GitLab CI.
• Integrate GitLab CI seamlessly with version control (Git), testing frameworks, and deployment platforms.
• Optimize pipeline performance to deliver faster, more reliable builds and deployments.
• Leverage Docker containerization for consistent application packaging across all environments.
• Contribute to GitOps-based deployments with Argo CD, ensuring Git repo sync with Kubernetes clusters.
• Monitor and manage application rollouts, rollbacks using Argo Rollouts and Workflows.
• Administer GitLab instance: user management, access control, and SDLC best practices enforcement.
• Automate production readiness processes covering quality, observability, compliance, security, alerting, and reliability.
• Augment our Backstage internal developer portal with golden path components for standardized scaffolding.
• Collaborate with dev teams to identify bottlenecks and provide CI/CD best practices support.
• Stay ahead of trends in GitLab, Argo CD, and Backstage ecosystems.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed as a Sr. Platform Engineer at Rivian, bring these qualifications:

• 3–5 years in DevOps or Platform Engineering, supporting larger orgs with developer experience focus.
• 2-3 years building solutions from scratch or integrations using Go, TypeScript, React.
• Strong CI/CD expertise: Proven GitLab CI pipeline maintenance.
• GitLab Administration: Manage users, access, configurations, and troubleshoot issues.
• GitOps hands-on: Argo CD, Argo Rollouts; plus for Argo Workflows and Kargo.
• Kubernetes proficiency for orchestration and deployments.
• Comfort with Rivian's tech stack: GitLab CI, Crossplane, k8s, Argo CD, React, TypeScript, Node.js, Go, Backstage, Helm, Terraform, AWS.
• Application dev experience contributing to APIs and UIs (expertise not required).
