Role Overview

As a Sr. Software Engineer, Backend - Ingestion (Hybrid) in Sunnyvale, California, you'll join the Ingestion group managing all network communications and event traffic between our security cloud and customer resources. This role involves ultra-high volume services written in Golang, supported by Kafka, and deep work with network connections and protocols like TLS negotiation, load balancing, virtual sessions, dynamic content distribution, and datastreams. With high autonomy and expectations, you'll lead major initiatives, design proprietary Cloud Protocols, and collaborate with Falcon Sensor teams for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android platforms. Ideal for engineers passionate about scaling systems at CrowdStrike's massive scale to stop breaches worldwide.

Hybrid Work Model

This hybrid position requires 2-3 days per week on-site in Sunnyvale, blending collaboration with flexibility in our remote-first culture.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you'll drive impactful work on petabyte-scale systems:

• Serve as Major Initiative Lead with high autonomy, designing proprietary Cloud Protocols and guiding architecture decisions.
• Develop and optimize ultra-high volume Golang services handling 3 trillion+ daily events.
• Collaborate closely with Falcon Sensor teams across platforms to integrate and scale ingestion pipelines.
• Tackle performance optimization, sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling for multi-tenant architectures.
• Troubleshoot and pinpoint failures across distributed service pipelines, ensuring resilient operations.
• Ship production code rapidly in a fast-paced, test-driven environment with rigorous peer reviews and CI/CD.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed, bring proven expertise:

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Over 7 years in full-time backend software development, building high-volume services for cloud SaaS products.
• Solid grounding in at least one cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP) with skills in sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability challenges, multi-threading, concurrency, and parallel processing.
• Strong problem-solving, engineering best practices (testing, code reviews, resilient architecture), and cross-team collaboration.
• Thrives in fast-paced, iterative environments; commits to on-time delivery of high-quality, unit-tested code.

Bonus Points: Experience with web servers/load balancers, open source contributions (Go, Scala, AWS, Cassandra, Kafka, Elasticsearch), or cybersecurity backgrounds. Note: Periodic background and fingerprint checks required for government customers.
