The Sr Supply Chain Specialist, Clinical Logistics role at Gilead Sciences in Foster City, California, is pivotal in managing the end-to-end movement, control, and compliance of clinical materials across a global, highly regulated supply network. This full-time position involves handling clinical cell banks, drug substance (DS), and samples, while establishing optimized transportation lanes and managing relationships with CMOs, 3PLs, and CTLs. Success demands expertise in inventory control, shipment coordination, data integrity, and partnership with Trade Compliance, Regulatory, and Quality teams to uphold GxP, GDP, and SOP standards.
In this role, you will execute comprehensive logistics for clinical materials, ensuring seamless global shipments with temperature compliance and chain-of-custody integrity. Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for internal cross-functional teams and external partners, fostering strong collaboration from project inception. Support CMO alignment, coordinate depot activities, and proactively resolve shipping exceptions, delays, or temperature excursions in tandem with the Global Logistics Investigations Team.
Additional duties include maintaining precise clinical supply data in ERP systems like Oracle, reviewing inventory reports for discrepancies, and executing transactions such as stock transfers and adjustments. Coordinate distribution calendars and study-startup readiness while mitigating supply risks. Drive continuous improvement by authoring SOPs, facilitating training, and streamlining processes to enhance service levels, compliance, and cost efficiency.
Candidates should hold a High School diploma with 9 years of relevant experience, an Associate’s degree with 7 years, a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years, or a Master’s degree with 3 years in supply chain, logistics, or biopharmaceutical operations. Proven track record in coordinating global, temperature-controlled shipments and collaborating with CMOs, 3PLs, and CTLs is essential. Strong knowledge of GxP/GDP principles, import/export documentation, trade compliance, and SOP governance is required, alongside proficiency in ERP, CTMS, TMS, and clinical inventory tools, plus advanced Excel skills.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and independent decision-making in high-pressure environments are critical. Key competencies include operational excellence for OTIF delivery, risk management for cold-chain and regulatory challenges, collaborative relationship-building, data integrity via analytics, and a drive for process optimization.
