Role Overview

The SRE Design & Support Engineer role at PepsiCo in Hyderabad is a pivotal position within our global technology team. This self-driven role focuses on applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles to ensure resilient, high-performing applications across our 260+ digital product portfolio. You will drive shift-left activities, embedding reliability into application design and project roadmaps for cloud-based full-stack developments, B2B PepsiConnect, direct-to-customer platforms, and other strategic initiatives. By leveraging SRE orchestration, automation, and proactive diagnostics, you will minimize business impacts, prevent incidents, and deliver seamless experiences for consumer, commercial, supply chain, and enablement functions. This role demands a blend of software engineering mindset, cloud architecture expertise, IT operations experience, and strong collaboration skills to influence cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Embed Reliability in Design Phases

Engage and influence product and engineering teams during design and development to integrate reliability, operability, events, logging, monitoring, and observability standards. Define and enforce non-functional requirements (NFRs) like SLA/SLO/SLI and error budgets into engineering solutions from the outset.

Proactive SRE Support and Incident Prevention

Act as a proactive SRE Support Engineer, preventing P1/P2 incidents and potential P3s by diagnosing anomalies before user impact. Orchestrate end-to-end ecosystem availability, performance, and consumption remediation across cloud-architected applications using automation and SRE tools.

Collaboration and Optimization

Collaborate with engineering, support teams on escalations and blameless postmortems. Work with customer-facing teams to provide SRE insights and tooling. Continuously observe, diagnose, and improve full-stack application ecosystem performance, optimizing L2 operations through workflow automation and AIOps adoption.

Platform Shaping and Innovation

Shape SRE orchestration platform designs incorporating inputs from production operations, business usage, product, and engineering teams. Drive AI Ops adoption to enhance proactive resolution and service offerings.

Qualifications & Requirements

To excel in this role, candidates need 8-11 years of experience evolving into SRE, including 3-5 years transforming IT operations. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Proven expertise in designing events, diagnostics, performance measures, and alerts to meet SLA/SLO/SLIs is essential. You should be highly quantitative, with strong judgment to connect ecosystem dots and work cross-functionally.

Hands-on experience with Python, SQL/NoSQL databases (MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, PostgreSQL), monitoring tools (AppDynamics, ELK Stack, Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace), Kafka, and SRE Ops toolsets is mandatory. A firm grasp of cloud architecture in distributed environments (Azure/AWS), front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React/Angular/Vue.js), and back-end technologies (Java, Spring Boot, APIs, databases) is crucial. Familiarity with ITSM processes and prior experience shaping SRE transformations is a plus.
