As a Staff AI Engineer - MCP Services, you'll lead the evolution of agent-friendly tool surfaces that enable sophisticated agentic workflows across metrics, logs, incidents, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities at Datadog

• Lead efforts to enhance Datadog's public-facing MCP server, enabling intelligent agents to discover and interact seamlessly with our observability services
• Design and implement agentic tool surfaces optimized for both evaluation frameworks and production deployment across diverse AI agents
• Build and maintain advanced evaluation pipelines that measure agent performance on critical Datadog workflows like investigations, incident triage, and metric queries
• Deep-dive into failure analysis by examining tool outputs, improving query parsing, and enhancing agent feedback loops
• Collaborate across Applied AI, engineering, and product teams to establish shared standards for tool integration and secure data access
• Drive innovation in agent-tool interaction models, pushing boundaries in agent-augmented software for cloud observability
• Enable external agents (Claude, Cursor) and internal Datadog AI agents to unlock powerful workflows with metrics, logs, and APM data
• Autonomously define technical direction in high-ambiguity environments while delivering production-ready systems
• Contribute to ReAct agentic loops and MCP standard evolution, staying ahead of industry agent tooling trends

Qualifications & Requirements

We're seeking experienced Staff-level engineers who thrive in applied AI and agentic systems. Key qualifications include:

• Staff-level experience in applied AI, agentic programming, LLM-powered automation, or orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI)
• Proven expertise building evaluation frameworks for LLM agents, including custom metrics and data instrumentation
• Strong comfort working in high-ambiguity, fast-changing environments with ability to autonomously prioritize and execute
• Deep systems thinking across multiple agents, tools, data sources, and complex user scenarios in observability
• Bonus: Hands-on experience with MCP standards, ReAct agentic loops, or building agent-compatible tooling surfaces
• Passion for agent-augmented software and shaping the future of AI-tool interfaces in production systems
