Key Responsibilities at Datadog

• Lead AI Initiatives: Serve as technical owner for design, development, and deployment of ML/AI-driven Notebook features that power natural language analytics and automated investigations.
• Shape Technical Strategy: Define long-term AI architecture and workflows for Notebooks and cross-product integrations.
• Full Cycle Ownership: Drive complete development lifecycle from prototyping and metric definition through experimentation, iteration, and production reliability at cloud scale.
• User-Centric Product Leadership: Champion exceptional end-user experiences while collaborating with product teams on AI workflow adoption.
• Build Production Agent Systems: Develop sophisticated agent architectures including tools, retrieval strategies, planning, guardrails, prompt management, evaluation frameworks, fallbacks, and human-in-the-loop processes.
• Cross-Team Coordination: Partner with leaders across Datadog to integrate Notebooks into broader AI-powered observability workflows.
• Mentor & Culture Building: Guide senior engineers while cultivating high-performing AI/ML engineering practices.
• Industry Leadership: Track emerging AI trends and guide strategic technology adoption decisions.
• Experimentation Excellence: Design rigorous evaluation frameworks and A/B experiments to validate AI feature impact.

Qualifications & Requirements

We're seeking candidates with exceptional AI/ML expertise and proven technical leadership. While we value diverse backgrounds, successful candidates typically demonstrate:

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent scientific field, or comparable industry experience.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years as technical lead on AI/ML projects.
• Demonstrated success leading large-scale AI initiatives from research through production deployment in product environments.
• Deep hands-on experience across model lifecycle: training, fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Expertise building production agent systems with sophisticated retrieval, planning, and safety mechanisms.
• Strong product instincts and communication skills to bridge technical teams and stakeholders.
• Passion for mentoring and building collaborative, high-velocity engineering cultures.
• Excitement about leveraging AI coding assistants and modern development workflows.
