As we expand into intelligent systems, our Simulation Environments team is building high-fidelity synthetic environments that empower AI agents to learn, reason, and act safely. This foundational role will shape Datadog's simulation platform, bridging AI research with production observability at scale.

Key Responsibilities at Datadog

• Design and architect high-fidelity simulation environments that accurately model complex distributed systems with scalability and realism
• Build synthetic data generation tools and comprehensive evaluation pipelines to train and benchmark AI agents across Datadog products
• Collaborate closely with AI research scientists and product engineering teams to seamlessly integrate models into simulation and production workflows
• Define the technical architecture and strategic roadmap for Datadog's emerging simulation platform
• Mentor engineers while contributing to the culture of our new, cross-functional team
• Scale simulation infrastructure to support realistic testing of observability scenarios and AI agent performance
• Develop robust evaluation frameworks to measure AI agent effectiveness in cloud environments
• Drive innovation at the intersection of AI, simulation, and observability technologies
• Partner with product teams to deliver production-ready AI simulation capabilities

Qualifications & Requirements

We're looking for engineers who thrive in ambiguity and excel at building from the ground up:

• Advanced degree (BS, MS, PhD) or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, backend engineering, or cloud infrastructure
• Hands-on ML/AI experience - building and deploying systems, not just consuming models
• Familiarity with synthetic data generation, simulation frameworks (Unity, Gazebo, custom), or generative modeling
• Proven track record turning technical ambiguity into scalable systems
• Strong leadership and communication skills in cross-functional, early-stage environments

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $234,000 - $300,000 USD base (New York, New York) plus competitive equity package and variable compensation. Actual offer based on experience and skills.
