Key Responsibilities at Rivian

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, your impact will be immediate and hands-on:

  • Design sub-systems and components for electric motors, including wound-field and permanent magnet motors.
  • Generate & refine detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings at component and sub-system levels using CATIA V6.
  • Conduct stack-up analyses for mating interfaces to define GD&T and manufacturing requirements per ASME Y14.5.
  • Review designs and drawings for technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to requirements.
  • Develop work instructions, assembly guidance, and build documentation.
  • Perform analysis and validation using hand-calculations, FEA, and numerical methods.
  • Manage suppliers with DFM, DFA, and issue lists for quality and on-time delivery.
  • Author technical specs, DVP&Rs, test plans, and Statements of Work (SOW).
  • Design tooling and fixtures for motor assembly and testing.
  • Lead lab activities including builds, tests, validation, and root cause analysis.

  • Ability to perform structural hand-calculations and initial FEA studies to support sizing, loading cases, and design feasibility (experience)
  • Experience leading root cause analysis efforts, DFMEA, DVP&R, and PFMEA activities (experience)
