Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Electronic Design, you'll tackle complex challenges in high-power electronics, pushing the boundaries of Silicon Carbide (SiC), Gallium Nitride (GaN), and traditional silicon technologies. This position offers hands-on lab work, cutting-edge simulations, and collaboration with world-class engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities at Rivian

  • Develop high-power electrical circuits such as active rectifiers, inverters, and DC-DC converters for EV applications
  • Conduct topology selection trade studies to optimize power electronics performance
  • Design circuits, select components, create schematics, and support PCB layout for production
  • Perform detailed circuit analysis and simulation using Matlab, PLECS, and industry-standard tools
  • Analyze magnetic structures including bus bars and high-frequency transformers/inductors
  • Design EMI/EMC filters ensuring compliance with automotive standards
  • Test prototype power electronics in high voltage/high current lab environments
  • Characterize power semiconductor devices (SiC, GaN, Silicon) and support embedded control development
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Systems, Test, Quality, Manufacturing, and Reliability teams
  • Engage with suppliers for critical component specifications and validation

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed as a Staff Power Electronics Engineer at Rivian, you need:

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Ph.D. preferred) with power electronics specialization
  • 5+ years experience developing high-power electronics for automotive or industrial applications
  • Deep knowledge of power semiconductor switches and diodes across Silicon, SiC, and GaN materials
  • Proven experience designing inverter and converter circuits including gate drivers
  • Expertise in embedded control of power electronics, PWM methods, and thermal analysis
  • Hands-on experience with Dual Active Bridge DC/DC modeling and bidirectional conversion
  • Proficiency in simulation tools: Spice, PLECS, Mathcad, Ansys Simplorer, Matlab
  • Experience with FEA tools like Ansys Maxwell/Q3D for magnetic analysis
  • Strong lab skills working with high voltage and current systems
