Role Overview

The Staff Software Engineer - Resiliency and Platform Engineering role in our SkyTouch Technology division is a pivotal position focused on elevating the reliability of our multi-tenant SaaS platform. This hybrid position requires four days onsite at our North Scottsdale office and is not eligible for sponsorship. Unlike traditional SRE roles, this is proactive engineering emphasizing platform capabilities, runtime safety, and developer enablement. You'll build shared libraries, frameworks, and standards that make resiliency the default, reducing operational risks for application teams. Work at the intersection of software engineering, platform engineering, and resiliency to prevent failures, enhance system behavior under stress, and empower dozens of engineers. This role writes production code for systemic enhancements, not customer features, fostering a safer, more scalable environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you'll drive foundational improvements across our platform:

• Design and implement shared libraries, frameworks, tooling, automation, and guardrails to boost application resiliency, runtime safety, and developer experience.
• Eliminate systemic issues like JVM memory leaks, unsafe defaults, brittle error handling, and resource exhaustion.
• Establish developer-facing standards and 'paved roads' for resiliency, observability, error handling, and operational readiness.
• Standardize logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability to enhance signal quality and accelerate recovery.
• Collaborate with Principal Engineers, Architects, and Managers to translate risks into platform initiatives.
• Engage in application codebases for pattern identification, then pivot to systemic solutions.
• Contribute to postmortems, ensuring lessons yield platform-wide improvements.
• Prototype tools and AI applications for productivity and resiliency gains.
• Influence practices through reviews, mentorship, and leadership.

Qualifications & Requirements

We seek a senior engineer passionate about scalable systems:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience in production systems.
• Deep expertise in large-scale, multi-tenant SaaS platforms, with focus on resiliency and platform engineering.
• Strong coding skills for platform-level improvements, including JVM, observability, and automation.
• Experience with AI tools for development, diagnostics, and operations.
• Proven ability to identify root causes, define standards, and drive adoption without formal authority.
• Comfortable in hybrid onsite environment (four days/week in North Scottsdale).
