Datadog is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - RUM Platform to join our Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM) pillar in Madrid, Spain or Paris, France. This is a foundational role where you'll lead engineering efforts for our Real User Monitoring (RUM) platform, enabling scalable integrations across session replay, error tracking, feature flags, and product analytics. As the first dedicated Staff Engineer, you'll shape the technical vision, drive architectural convergence, and unlock innovation across Datadog's observability products.

Key Responsibilities at Datadog

• Design and evolve platform infrastructure that supports frontend observability products across DEM, including RUM, session replay, feature flags, and product analytics.
• Build and scale data pipelines and reducers using technologies such as Kafka and Redis to ingest, transform, and serve real-time user experience data.
• Partner with SDK, FE and OpenTelemetry contributors to support a growing number of data platforms and open standards in frontend instrumentation.
• Guide cross-functional collaboration by identifying shared patterns and unifying backend infrastructure across multiple product lines.
• Solve ambiguous, high-impact technical problems by applying deep systems knowledge and delivering clear architectural direction.
• Serve as a technical leader and mentor within the RUM organization and broader engineering community at Datadog.
• Drive foundational engineering work enabling scalable, cross-product integrations across critical observability features.
• Bring clarity to complex systems and build bridges across teams to accelerate innovation.
• Shape both technical vision and execution as the pioneering Staff Engineer dedicated to the RUM Platform effort.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed as a Staff Software Engineer - RUM Platform at Datadog, you should have:

• Backend expertise: Experienced in building scalable, distributed backend systems using technologies such as Kafka, Redis, and Java.
• Data pipeline mastery: Comfortable managing complex data pipelines and translating diverse data sources into semantically aligned, actionable insights.
• Architectural leadership: Skilled at navigating ambiguity and driving clarity across multiple teams and product surfaces.
• Observability standards: Familiar with open standards in observability, such as OpenTelemetry, and excited to contribute to a broader ecosystem.
