Key Responsibilities at Rivian

As a Staff Sustaining Reliability Engineer, you'll own the end-to-end reliability testing lifecycle. Here's what you'll do:

• Research and strategically implement vehicle, component, module, and system testing for early detection of production quality and reliability issues during mass production.
• Develop innovative test methods and equipment, including post-test teardown analysis procedures and procure specialized tooling.
• Document comprehensive summary reports to clearly communicate test results and teardown findings to stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with quality, manufacturing, systems, design, and process engineering teams to enhance manufacturing quality and recommend process improvements.
• Assess manufacturing changes and risks, then develop targeted test plans to verify them effectively.
• Strategically identify, prioritize, own escalation, and lead root cause analysis for failures in reliability tests.
• Support the creation of data systems for continuous monitoring of test articles and automated reporting of results.
• Develop recurring overall program status reports for management review and maintain closed-loop feedback with the field reliability team.
• Cascade reliability risks from design DFMEA to process PFMEA and control plans, ensuring robust quality controls.

Qualifications & Requirements

Rivian seeks proven leaders in reliability engineering. Key qualifications include:

• 5-10 years of industry experience in test engineering roles, with at least 3 years in electrification (high voltage batteries, drive units, traction motors, or power inverters/converters).
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering as a minimum educational requirement.
• Hands-on experience in automotive test facilities, including Ongoing Reliability Testing, HALT, HASS, and burn-in testing.
• Proficiency in reliability statistics like Weibull Analysis, using tools such as JMP or ReliaSoft suite.
• Advanced knowledge of physics of failure, root cause analysis, and failure analysis techniques (optical microscopy, SEM, CT, X-Ray, EDS).
• Demonstrated experience developing custom test fixtures, test plans, establishing reliability requirements, and leading cross-functional FMEAs.
• A passion for data-driven decision-making and contributing to an inclusive team culture.
