We're seeking a Staff Validation Integration Engineer to join our ESS Test & Validation organization in Tustin, California. In this leadership role, you'll spearhead end-to-end validation strategy for high-voltage battery systems, ensuring reliable launches of Rivian's innovative energy storage solutions.

As a key player at the intersection of systems engineering, hands-on testing, and program management, you'll integrate requirements, DFMEA/NUDD-based DVP planning, and risk mitigation across hardware, BMS software, thermal subsystems, and vehicle interfaces. This position demands a strategic thinker who thrives in fast-paced environments, driving cross-functional alignment to deliver packs that meet the highest standards of durability, safety, and performance at scale.

Rivian's mission to keep the world adventurous forever means pushing boundaries in EV battery technology. If you have deep expertise in lithium-ion battery validation and a passion for protecting the outdoors through emissions-free innovation, this Staff Validation Integration Engineer role offers the chance to shape the future of electric mobility.

Key Responsibilities at Rivian

Joining Rivian as a Staff Validation Integration Engineer means owning critical aspects of battery system validation. Here's what you'll do daily:

  • Lead end-to-end ESS validation from concept to post-SOP support, aligning scope, timing, and risk across all phases.
  • Develop DVP/DVPR from DFMEA/NUDD outputs, creating clear, measurable requirements with risk-based prioritization.
  • Review and refine test specifications to address identified risks comprehensively.
  • Drive reliability strategies, including multi-level plans, failure tracking, and gap closure initiatives.
  • Conduct ESO readiness reviews, managing deviations and approvals for on-time vehicle launches.
  • Orchestrate complex testing at pack, module, and system levels—durability, cycle life, shock/vibration, thermal, safety/abuse, and FuSa.
  • Build and maintain dashboards for burn-up tracking, schedule risk, SDVP health, and data completeness.
  • Audit DVP coverage to ensure all requirements are testable and progress is accurately reported.
  • Manage issue triage, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and recurrence prevention.
  • Leverage data and CAE models to optimize test design and reconcile simulation vs. real-world outcomes.

Expect to mentor junior engineers, standardize processes, and communicate crisply to leadership on status, risks, and tradeoffs—empowering data-driven decisions at every program gate.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed as a Staff Validation Integration Engineer at Rivian, you need proven expertise in high-voltage battery ecosystems. Key qualifications include:

  • 5+ years working with high voltage battery systems, including testing and validation.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to consensus on complex technical challenges.
  • Deep knowledge of lithium-ion battery operations, equipment, facilities, and high-voltage testing protocols.
  • DFMEA contributor experience with hands-on involvement in failure mode analysis.
  • Reliability test planning skills, including sample sizing and damage acceleration modeling.
  • Track record simplifying test suites into component-level validation for faster insights.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and self-starter mindset.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, JAMA, and Plato is a strong plus.
