As a CDL A Local Delivery Truck Driver at Sysco Chicago, you are the face of our company to our valued customers. Your day typically begins early in the morning, starting with a thorough inspection of your truck to ensure it's in safe working condition. You'll then review your delivery schedule and load your truck with the day's orders, ensuring proper handling and temperature control for perishable items. You will be delivering meats, produce, frozen foods, groceries, dry goods, and supplies.
Throughout the day, you'll navigate your assigned route, making deliveries to multiple customer locations. At each stop, you'll unload the products, verify the order with the customer, and obtain the necessary signatures. You will need to lift, push, or move product weighing an average of 40-60 pounds and as much as 100 pounds repeatedly. Building strong relationships with customers is a key part of the job, so you'll need to be friendly, professional, and responsive to their needs.
Between deliveries, you'll communicate with dispatch to update your progress and address any unexpected issues. At the end of your route, you'll return to the distribution center, unload any remaining products, and complete the necessary paperwork.
