Position Summary

The Technical Specialist (Controls) role in Bowling Green, Ohio, is your chance to drive automation excellence in one of the industry's most dynamic environments. You'll maintain and optimize advanced control systems for gas turbines, high-speed reciprocating engines, medium voltage generators, power distribution, and environmental controls. This hands-on position involves troubleshooting complex equipment, supporting construction projects, and leading controls innovation. Key Responsibilities

As a controls expert, you'll tackle critical tasks including:

  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for seamless integration.
  • Troubleshooting, tuning, and optimizing control loops, instrumentation, and automation networks to boost system stability and efficiency.
  • Supporting SCADA platforms and real-time data systems for advanced, data-driven decision-making in energy operations.
  • Collaborating with engineering and operations teams to enhance controls performance and reliability.
  • Participating in commissioning, startup, and upgrades of control systems using automation best practices.
  • Reviewing technical documentation, control schematics, and engineering designs focused on controls architecture.
  • Leading automation projects and training initiatives to build team expertise.
  • Maintaining records, reports, and compliance documentation for controls systems.
  • Performing other duties emphasizing controls excellence and continuous improvement.

Work Environment & Schedule

This role demands adaptability in extreme temperatures, loud settings, and enclosed spaces. Expect to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and scaffolding with PPE, use hand tools, and be available for shift work, on-call, nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel.

Required Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate degree or equivalent in instrumentation, electrical, or automation technology.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in oil & gas or industrial automation.
  • Valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, and industrial networking.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in automation, controls, or instrumentation engineering.

Technical Skills That Make a Difference
