Job Description

The Head of Quality Engineering role is accountable for defining the strategic roadmap for Quality Engineering and provides leadership for the team. Proficient at communicating at all levels and ensuring continuity of service, having a good understanding of current technological trends and business concepts, demonstrating strategic thinking and strong business acumen. Provides leadership to ensure that system functionality and efficiency is maintained, accountable for KPIs, SLAs and IT budgets, and represents and collaborates with all stakeholders to ensure service and project delivery.

  • Demonstrating strategic vision for quality engineering, aligning testing priorities with business goals and delivery timelines.
  • Having an innovative approach in testing methodologies, automation frameworks, and tooling to support scalable growth and operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrating commercial awareness in managing vendor relationships, evaluating testing tools, and optimizing cost-effectiveness of quality initiatives.
  • Leading resource planning and capacity management to ensure timely and effective test coverage across projects and releases
  • Managing the impact of change within the quality engineering function, ensuring clear communication, stakeholder alignment, and structured escalation paths.
  • Developing Engineering and operational skills and capabilities in the team through periodic performance management (objectives, reviews, feedback, etc.), engagements (meetings, discussions, escalation, and resolution of issues), and career development conversations.
  • Representing and collaborating with all of Tesco Technology as required and vendors to ensure service and project delivery.
  • Identifying opportunities for transformation within quality engineering, quantifies business impact, and partners with stakeholders to build compelling business cases.
  • Evaluating and recommending testing tools and platforms based on their technical fit and commercial value to the organization.
  • Supporting strategic decision-making by providing insights into quality metrics, risk assessments, and ROI of testing initiatives.
  • Leverage feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate across multifunctional departments and communicate effectively with stakeholder at all levels.
  • Lead by example in creating a positive and supportive culture in your team.
  • Anticipate and overcomes obstacles with a pragmatic approach to achieve goals and commitments. While exhibiting high responsiveness by reacting quickly and positively to significant and major events
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of Quality Engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Drive modernization of the QA technology stack, emphasizing test automation, performance testing, and continuous testing integration.
  • Promote a strong quality culture by working together with engineering, product, program, and business stakeholders

Technical Skills and Experience
  • 15-20 years of experience in testing and quality engineering.
  • A proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology; having done so across multiple teams in multiple geographies.
  • Experience contributing or running RFP processes.
  • Familiarity with business and financial principles, including managing budgeting and forecasting.
  • Understand how the procurement process works and can effectively apply the knowledge in planning and influencing product roadmaps.
  • Experience managing large-scale integration programs and third-party system testing.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in testing Finance ERP domain and preferably Oracle Fusion
  • Experience in testing Accounting, Payments and Retail domain
  • Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, tools, standards, and best practices.
  • Define and execute the overall testing strategy for large-scale solutions.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive automation strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Integrate testing tools like Selenium, Appium, Karate, RestAssured, UIPath, Cucumber, Jmeter and Gatling into the testing ecosystem.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Infra & CI/CD concepts (Azure, Jenkins, SonarQube, Git, Snyk, Docker).
  • Experience with test data management, mocking frameworks, and service virtualization.
  • Lead test planning and estimation, risk identification and mitigation, and maintain comprehensive test metrics.
  • Deep understanding of Agile, DevOps, and software development methodologies.
  • Knowledge on Adopting AI capabilities into QE frameworks will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
