Job Description
Tesla’s factory design and planning team is looking for a highly motivated Architectural Designer to help drive the development of Gigafactory Nevada. The team is responsible for developing a factory design which supports seamless integration between production, material flow, construction, and facilities teams. Innovation is expected. Through a detailed understanding of the high-level factory objectives and extensive collaboration with the internal and external teams designing individual factory components, this team ensures that the factory design as whole achieves all of Tesla’s objectives. The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile, and highly motivated tea. A successful applicant will be an excellent communicator who takes pride in their thoroughness, analytical ability, organizational skills, and team mentality. The candidate will be able to think at a systems level about ambiguous problems and use strong logic to develop models that drive optimal factory design decisions.

Skills Required

Required Qualifications
- Degree in Architecture, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience (experience)
- Proficiency in 2D & 3D software, most critically Auto CAD & Revit (experience)
- Good understanding of building codes and regulations, construction documentation and detailing (experience)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, strong conflict management, able to work collaboratively with clients, engineers, and contractors (experience)
- Experience and knowledge of different project delivery methods, and anability to manage multiple projects and deadlines (experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in 3D Rendering Software such as 3d Studio MAX, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and/or SketchUp, is an asset (experience)
- Experience in a manufacturing environment or layout design for either manufacturing or warehousing is an asset (experience)
Responsibilities
- Create and develop architectural designs and concepts for a variety of projects; Produce detailed drawings, plans, and details using 3D BIM software
- Participate in all project phases, including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents and production
- Coordinate with design team, consultants, contractors, fabricators, and other vendors to meet overall project objectives
- Collaborate with factory stakeholders including manufacturing, production, material flow, and industrial engineering, to develop successful factory layouts
- Meet with stakeholders and conduct field walks to gather information necessary for design
- Allocate and optimize space for production lines and other supporting functions; Perform design option analysis for cost efficiency, constructability, etc.
- Help develop REVIT families, standard details, manage BIM files, and develop process improvements / workflows / templates to increase design productivity
