Job Description

To ensure Tesla’s overall mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing our world leading battery technology to the grid. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, testing and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid connected energy storage system at residential, industrial, and utility levels.Tesla Compliance Engineering team is looking for experienced Engineer(s) who is passionate about product safety and reliability to drive the world’s transition to a sustainable future. We emphasize collaboration in our work, and always encourage each other to have fun while we are changing the world together. The Engineer(s) will perform the testing and global certifications on renewable energy and electrical vehicle charging products. These products incorporate solar, battery and energy management technologies to meet national and international standards of ASNI, UL, IEEE, IEC, EN, KN, JIS, GB, and CSA. In this role you will work with nationally recognized testing laboratories (NRTL) and our product design teams to get our hi-tech product(s) access pass to the global markets, which may include but not limited to the regulatory product architecture/design, developing validation plans, compliance roadmap scheduling, in-house compliance testing, debug/RCA, data analysis, and preparing regulatory documentations, etc. In addition, you will participate in trade groups and technical standards committees to drive legislation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, preferred major in Power Electronics or equivalent experience (experience)
  • More than 2 years’ experience in product regulatory and compliance role (experience, 2 years)
  • Experienced in renewable energy products/standards and power electronics (experience)
  • Understanding the EU CE requirements, North American Listings and APAC regulations and Compliance / certification experience per ANSI/CAN/UL/IEEE and IEC/EN/ISO standards (experience)
  • Demonstrated experience of taking products through the certification process (experience)
  • Ability to navigate/interpret ambiguity of various product safety standards (experience)
  • Experience with laboratory test equipment and data acquisition system, such as the oscilloscopes, the power analyzers, data loggers, etc. (experience)
  • Knowledge of energy storage systems, low and high voltage power electronic circuits (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering components, understanding of how they interact in complex products (experience)
  • Knowledge of product safety and compliance, knows how to do the construction review and making testing packages per national (ANSI/UL/CAN) and International (IEC/EN/ISO) product safety standards for the Energy storage systems, the Inverter/converters, and the control systems, etc. (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Regulatory product architecture and design
  • Support the research of new market entry requirements
  • Review of products, specifications, and test plans
  • Developing test criteria, methodologies and pass/fail criteria
  • Support product registrations and permitting applications
  • Debug/RCA non-conformities of products
  • Work with NRTLs to achieve product compliance certificates
  • Convert problem statements to specification requirements
  • Compliance validation & data analysis which may include high power grid-connected batteries, EV chargers and solar products
  • Perform product safety testing, troubleshooting and bug fixing with Tesla cross functional Teams (ME, EE, SW and FW teams)
