Job Description

As a Facilities Spares Technician at Tesla, you'll be essential in managing spare parts inventory to support the maintenance and upkeep of our manufacturing plants and facilities, ensuring uninterrupted operations and minimal downtime for equipment and systems. Your primary responsibilities will include inventory tracking, procurement, receiving, quality control, and logistical support in a dynamic production setting. This position is part of our Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, collaborating closely with technicians, engineering, planners, operators, and supply chain specialists to sustain efficient plant functionality. Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in inventory management, parts control, or a similar technical role in a facilities or industrial setting, with strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills (experience)
  • Technical aptitude, including basic mechanical or electrical knowledge of plant equipment and systems, proficiency in inventory software, and Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel) (experience)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for coordinating with teams, suppliers, and cross-functional groups in a fast-paced plant environment (experience)
  • Forklift operation experience, or familiarity with manufacturing plant systems (experience)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (experience)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and operate equipment like forklifts in a plant or warehouse setting (experience)
  • Must handle varying temperatures, industrial noise, and adhere to safety protocols (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Manage and organize spare parts inventory for plant equipment, including receiving, cataloging, tracking, and conducting audits to identify shortages, surpluses, or obsolete items for quick accessibility by maintenance teams
  • Handle procurement and sourcing by ordering parts from suppliers, verifying quality upon receipt, finding cost-effective solutions, and ensuring compliance with budgets and plant policies
  • Provide direct support to Facilities teams by supplying parts for repairs, installations, preventive maintenance, and equipment upgrades, while forecasting needs based on usage patterns and failure rates
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, maintenance technicians, and supply chain specialists, to troubleshoot issues, optimize stock levels, and prevent delays in plant operations
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in Flux, including logs of parts usage, warranties, service histories, and generating reports on inventory trends, turnover, and cost analyses to inform operational decisions
  • Ensure quality control by inspecting incoming spares for defects, implementing storage best practices (proper shelving, labeling, and environmental controls), and adhering to safety regulations for handling materials in a plant environment
  • Drive continuous improvements by identifying opportunities to optimize processes, reduce waste through lean techniques, recycle obsolete parts, and adopt new technologies for enhanced plant sustainability
