Job Description

Consider before submitting an application:This position is expected to start January 2026 and continue through the entire Spring 2026 term (through April/May 2026). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks at 40 hours per week, for this internship. International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. Again, please do not apply until you know you can work 40 hours per week. This is required for external applicants. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.Internship Program at TeslaThe Internship Recruiting Team is driven by the passion to recognize emerging talent. Our year around program places the best students in positions that they will grow both technically and personally through their experience working closely with their Manager, Mentor, and team. We provide an experience that allows for the intern to experience life at Tesla by giving them projects that are critical to their team’s success. This internship will provide opportunities to work with the EV Charging and Energy Public Policy & Business Development Team on policy and business development, market analysis, and strategic engagement at the state and local level. You will be part of a team responsible for creating and implementing the company’s electric vehicle charging and energy regulatory and legislative strategies. This includes work on utility programs, equipment standards, permitting and local codes, fleet electrification, and medium-and-heavy duty charging, with an opportunity to learn and grow, working across the team to support its full range of efforts.Locations: Palo Alto, CA or Washington DC

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in relevant field such as Political Science, Public Policy, Technology Policy, International Studies, or related fields with a focus on energy and sustainability (degree in relevant field such as political science)
  • Experience and understanding of the federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory process from prior work and academic experience (experience)
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with experience successfully managing multiple complex, cross-functional projects simultaneously (experience)
  • Able to make a 6-month commitment at minimum (experience)
  • High level research and writing abilities (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct EV charging or energy policy experience within government and/or relevant nonprofits, public interest groups or industry associations is preferred (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Support the policy team by summarizing and analyzing regulatory filings, developing briefings, researching legislation, and managing complex, cross-functional projects
  • Assist with the development of new policy and business initiatives
  • Opportunity to develop capstone project on priority charging or energy policy issue
  • Work with internal teams to get cross-functional input, and advise on public policy developments
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to amplify public policy prioriities
