Job Description

Consider before submitting an application:This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.The Internship Recruiting Team is driven by the passion to recognize and develop emerging talent. Our year-round program places the best students in positions where they will grow technically, professionally, and personally through their experience working closely with their manager, mentor, and team. We are dedicated to providing an experience that allows the intern to experience life at Tesla by including them in projects that are critical to their team’s success. As a Hardware Product Management Intern, you will help define and commercialize Tesla’s industrial energy hardware product offerings for Utility and Large Industrial clients.You will leverage your expertise to develop market and product requirements needed to deliver industry-leading industrial energy hardware products. You will also be a key member of a cross-functional Product Management team that supports the ongoing development of technical content for sales, service, and engineering teams for Tesla’s industrial energy products.As a member of the Product Management team, you will be required to focus on diverse challenges with both commercial and technical implications to the industrial energy product landscape. In addition to a rock-solid work ethic and excellent collaboration skills, members of our team display creativity, passion, and a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting technology landscape. In this role, you will be responsible for helping build Hardware Offerings for our Industrial Energy Products.Location: Palo Alto, CA

Required Qualifications

  • A completed Undergraduate Degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, or chemical engineering (degree in mechanical)
  • Pursuing a Graduate Degree in both technical and commercial fields such as Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management (degree in both technical and commercial fields such as mechanical engineering and engineering management)
  • The ability to build strong internal and external relationships with stakeholders and cross-functional teams (experience)
  • A passion for developing physical hardware products for use in the renewable energy industry – and critically - accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy (experience)
  • Strong verbal, written, and graphical communication skills (experience)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences (experience)
  • Experience in a firm, academic lab, or similar team environment focused on the development of physical hardware products for use in the energy industry (experience)
  • Familiarity with - or the ability to learn - elementary pre-tax cash flow modeling techniques (experience)
  • Technical aptitude to provide product-level guidance in at least one major hardware subsystem area (electrical, thermal, structural, deployment, etc.) (experience)
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions; proficiency with at least one high-level analytical language (Python, R, Matlab) to gain insights from large data sets is preferred (experience)
  • Ability to execute many projects and tasks in parallel while effectively engaging cross-functional stakeholders (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Create business cases and market & product insights to help inform the Industrial Energy Hardware product roadmap and organizational priorities
  • Help define and commercialize service offerings into standardized products to ensure successful product launches and enable customer success
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams across the product, engineering, service, and commercial organizations
  • Support the education of critical product features for internal teams, customers, and supporting parties
