Job Description

Consider before submitting an application:This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.The Internship Recruiting Team is driven by the passion to recognize and develop emerging talent. We are dedicated to providing an experience that allows the intern to experience life at Tesla by including them in projects that are critical to their team’s success. The Energy Low Voltage Electrical Engineering and RF team designs the eyes, ears, and brains of Tesla's Vehicle & Optimus charging and residential/industrial energy storage products. This skilled and motivated individual will keep pushing this evolving industry forward by designing wireless/wired communication systems, circuits to ensure user safety, energy metering, thermal controls, relay controls for grid connection, and much more.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (degree in electrical engineering or a related field)
  • Coursework in RF/Wireless Communication Systems, Microwave Engineering, and Signal Processing (experience)
  • Strong knowledge of RF transmission lines, impedance matching, RF circuits, and antenna theory (experience)
  • Ability to write Python code or use similar tools for automating RF measurements (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, network analyzers) (experience)
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as ADS, HFSS, or CST (experience)
  • Understanding of system-level RF parameters (e.g., power, sensitivity, throughput) (experience)
  • Exposure to PCB design tools like Altium is a plus (experience)
  • Must be willing and able to relocate to Palo Alto, CA for the duration of the internship (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to PCB design tools like Altium is a plus (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of RF hardware/system and/or antenna design for energy-related products
  • Conduct RF performance testing and develop scripts to automate testing, data parsing, plotting, and analysis of large dataset
  • Participate in modeling and simulating component level and product level EM simulations
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical and design-related challenges
