Job Description

Tesla is seeking a Managing Policy Advisor to join the Energy Policy Team, focusing on regulatory, market, and legislative initiatives across North America to accelerate the deployment of Tesla’s energy products. This role will primarily support grid-scale battery energy storage projects through close collaboration with the Policy and Megapack Energy Teams. Additionally, the position may involve supporting Tesla’s residential energy interests as needed, contributing to the company’s mission of advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in the electricity or energy industry (experience, 6 years)
  • Degree in a field relevant to energy, political science, economics, or utility business models, or equivalent experience (Masters, Juris Doctor, or other advanced degree preferred) (experience)
  • Deep knowledge of electric utility regulations, regional transmission system operations, utility resource planning processes, and interconnection rules (experience)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize and clearly communicate technical information (experience)
  • Working knowledge of utility planning processes and ability to advocate for energy storage policies at the state level (preferred: candidates with demonstrated specific policy outcomes through prior work) (experience)
  • Highly energetic personality with the ability to function autonomously in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters, Juris Doctor, or other advanced degree preferred (degree in other advanced degree preferred)
  • preferred: candidates with demonstrated specific policy outcomes through prior work (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop state-level policy strategies to scale deployment of battery energy storage and create new market opportunities
  • Engage proactively with policymakers, regulatory commissions, utilities, trade groups, and external stakeholders to advocate for energy priorities through regulatory filings and legislation
  • Foster effective collaboration between Tesla’s policy, business development, operations, and engineering teams on policy and regulatory matters
  • Monitor and analyze regulatory and legislative developments to inform strategic advocacy efforts
  • Represent Tesla’s interests in public forums, hearings, and stakeholder meetings to advance energy storage initiatives
