Job Description

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Tesla Vehicle Camera Team. This team is responsible for the entire lifecycle of camera hardware development within our vehicles which includes sensor evaluation, lens development, camera module development, monitoring of manufacturing quality, camera calibration, image quality assessment, camera quality tuning and platform integration. As a member of the team, you will drive mechanical design of camera modules and integration across our vehicle platforms.

  • Knowledge of design of plastic injection molded, sheet metal stamping and cast parts (experience)
  • Proficient in CAD, CATIA preferred (experience)
  • Experience in drafting 2D drawings with GD&T (experience)
  • Experience with FEA, ANSYS preferred (experience)
  • Camera and lighting simulation experience in SPEOS or equivalent (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with X-FN teams to define product requirements and develop solutions for FSD functional performance
  • Perform tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Camera modeling in ANSYS SPEOS and other simulations and analyses before releasing designs for production
  • Develop designs in CAD for both detailed parts and master model assemblies
  • Create 2D drawings appropriate for high-volume production and inspection methods
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and support tooling bring up
  • Run validation tests and perform data analysis
  • Coordinate offsite testing for system characterization & technology development
  • Provide production support to help identify and resolve issues
