Job Description

The Body in White Process Engineer will drive continuous process improvements for Tesla’s commercial-scale energy storage product. Responsibilities include applying lean manufacturing principles to monitor OEE and critical parameters, while driving welding and manufacturing operations enhancements and cost-effective innovations. Daily work is highly collaborative, involving partnerships with quality, controls, equipment, and manufacturing engineering teams, as well as new product introduction, maintenance technicians, and production operators—strong interpersonal skills are essential. The role emphasizes troubleshooting and root cause analysis of fallout, using a first principles and data-driven approach. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented with a strong grasp of the big picture. Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science or equivalent experience (experience)
  • Knowledge in Fanuc Robot programming & handling, WTC Weld Controller, Lincoln power source – Power Wave (experience)
  • Substantial knowledge in Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) and GMAW MIG/MAG, Destructive Testing, and Nondestructive Testing (experience)
  • Design for Manufacturability experience, Poke Yoke, and elimination of risk with design recommendations quickly. (experience)
  • Able to utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D) (experience)
  • Experienced with statistical and data analysis tools (SPC, Minitab, JMP, Jupyter Notebooks, MySQL, Python, Jython or similar) (experience)
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, understanding of tolerance stack up. (experience)
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics (experience)
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal direction contributing to a positive, team-oriented work environment (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Owner for OEE metrics. Investigate and implement countermeasures to improve process Cpk and product yield
  • Train associates and technicians on new or updated manufacturing instructions
  • Design and execute engineering experiments, analyze data, including but not limited to DOE, GR&R, hypothesis testing or any related statistical tools
  • Lead efforts in lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives
  • Setup and operate welding and joining processes for lab tests and perform welding experiments
  • Interpret welding related process data and troubleshoot welding problems
  • Review and monitor welding procedures, processes, and documentation
  • Managing welding procedure qualifications and generating welding procedures to help the manufacturing and welding teams
