Job Description

We're looking for skilled a engineer to design advanced battery cells—essential components in every Tesla product—that will enable affordable, accessible, and long lasting electric vehicles and energy storage systems.Tesla’s vertical integration of products offers a unique opportunity in the industry. You'll develop architectures from concept to implementation, contribute to product roadmap decisions across our portfolio, and address technical manufacturing challenges at scale beyond typical automotive volumes.In this role, you'll apply first-principles thinking to battery cell design and advance battery technology through innovative approaches. You'll coordinate with multiple disciplines including supply chain, electrochemistry design, manufacturing, and quality engineering to develop prismatic cell products. Your responsibilities will include establishing and validating requirements while guiding designs through to mass production.We value technical excellence and commitment to pushing boundaries in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve. Success in this position requires self-motivation, disciplined execution, strong collaboration, and effective communication skills. Required Qualifications

  • Degree or Equivalent Experience Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science (experience)
  • Robust fundamentals in solid mechanics, electrochemistry, and heat transfer (experience)
  • Experience designing for high-volume manufacturing processes such as stamping, deep drawing, plastic injection molding, heat treating, and metal welding (experience)
  • Familiarity with properties and applications of common engineering metals and polymers (experience)
  • Experience with experiment design and setup, data acquisition, analysis (experience)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (CATIA V5/V6 experience is a plus) (experience)
  • Foundational knowledge in GD&T (proficiency is a plus) (experience)
  • Great communication skills (interpersonal & technical); willingness to lead discussions with internal & external groups; a team-first attitude (experience)
  • Resilience & independent learning— ability to hit deadlines under pressure and manage shifting requirements, multiple simultaneous priorities (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • CATIA V5/V6 experience is a plus (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design ownership of mechanical components and assemblies for in-house cells, from initial concept through development and eventual factory launch + ramp)
  • Advance and execute validation of technologies that enable key product performance metrics while meeting safety, cost, and mass production manufacturability
  • Lead prototyping, empirical testing and analysis (support advanced testing and analysis)
  • Hands-on engagement with manufacturing process and automation development
  • Lead multi-disciplinary collaborations across electrochemistry design, CAE, supply chain, quality, manufacturing, qualification, new product introduction
  • Research and benchmark competitive solutions; complete DFMEA and fault tree analysis
  • Define and release technical specifications (dimensional, functional, performance, manufacturing)
  • Author clear technical documentation & deliver live presentations
  • Participate in component sourcing and supplier engineering relationships
  • Occasional travel to Tesla factories, satellite team sites, and suppliers (domestic / international as needed)
