Job Description
Tesla is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to build a software and hardware platform for Tesla Megapack service and local data. Our team is defining the future of edge data and infrastructure for vertically integrated industrial Tesla Energy sites, a rapidly scaling sector of the Tesla Energy business. Our work supports Tesla Megapack's Certified Service Provider (CSP) program, a program that empowers sophisticated customers and thirdparty service providers to perform service on Megapack systems. We are a high-impact, fast-paced team that values curiosity, learning, mentorship, open discourse, and collaboration, with a direct impact on Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. You'll collaborate with other Energy Engineering teams for the newest Energy projects like Megapack 3. You’ll work with and deepen your expertise in distributed storage, manage Kubernetes and NATS clusters, build observability tooling, and develop Rust applications for edge software updates. Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience (experience, 5 years)
- Strong understanding of system design principles and the challenges of ensuring availability, reliability, scalability, and security in distributed software systems (experience)
- An understanding of and interest in server hardware fundamentals (experience)
- Fluency in Rust and experience with Kubernetes, NATS, and industrial communication protocols are a plus (experience)
- An interest in CI/CD and deployment tooling for IoT are a plus (experience)
- Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network systems (experience)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Eagerness to prototype, work on early-stage projects, and learn from pilots (experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in Rust and experience with Kubernetes, NATS, and industrial communication protocols are a plus (experience)
- An interest in CI/CD and deployment tooling for IoT are a plus (experience)
Responsibilities
- Design and implement edge kubernetes fleet management, server provisioning, and software update automation for Certified Service Provider program
- Evaluate server hardware and operating systems for next-gen platform
- Characterize complex problems related to the scalability, reliability, performance, and security of production systems
- Test the performance, scalability, and reliability of software systems at scale, including developing the services to support this testing
- Provide technical leadership, foster collaboration through in-office meetings and pair programming, and drive initiatives to completion
- Learn from pilot sites and early customers to inform the future of the platform
- Maintain the values of the team which include engineering excellence, curiosity, a bias for action, self-awareness, inclusivity, and vulnerability
