Job Description

Tesla’s Environmental Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) team support all Tesla Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales/Service/Delivery functions in our shared mission to accelerate to a sustainable tomorrow by being safe, fair, and fun today. The EHS&S team uses human and organizational performance (HOP) principles to foster an engaged, agile workforce who are focused on critical safeguard verification and innovative solutions to complex technical and organizational challenges. EHS&S supports Tesla’s people and environment-focused decision making using actionable metrics, world-class resources, and exceptional talent.Tesla is seeking an ambitious Sr. EHS Specialist to be part of a team supporting the start-up and sustaining operations of the Tesla Semi Truck Factory as part of the Gigafactory Nevada campus. The candidate will be supporting a variety of operations including welding, stamping, coatings, automated and manual assembly processes in a high-volume manufacturing space. This role will support the business in validating new processes, managing changes, and collaborating with operational leaders on risk reduction projects. The Sr. EHS Specialist will use HOP principles to drive ownership of EHS impacts, engage with employees, learn from events, and systematically enhance our operational safeguards. The candidate will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader EHS and Gigafactory teams. They will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as an EHS professional, preferably in a manufacturing, oil & gas, construction, or similar workplace (experience, 5 years)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or equivalent experience (experience)
  • Experience supporting EHS program development, training all levels of personnel, and influencing/managing change to reduce risk and improve outcomes by working with cross functional teams (experience)
  • Experience with hazard analysis methods, hazard communication, powered industrial vehicle safety, OSHA compliance, event/incident investigation and learnings, and corrective action management (experience)
  • Familiarity with industrial hygiene, industrial ergonomics, machine safety, environmental compliance processes (experience)
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and deadlines (experience)
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Drive one or more manufacturing department EHS outcomes through leadership and employee engagement in alignment with the business and EHS strategies
  • Actively work with factory stakeholders to ensure that Production and Factory changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety and the environment
  • Perform audits and inspections, document results, and verify action closure
  • Analyze event trends and use risk-assessment methods to identify continuous improvement projects that reduce injury, illness and environmental impact events
  • Facilitate investigations from a Learning Teams approach, ensuring worker involvement and that preventative actions address system causes and not just individual behaviors
  • Participate in pre-job planning and verification of controls/safeguards before new, high risk, and non-standard work begins
  • Partner with EHS specialties (Environmental, Construction Safety, Equipment Safety, EHS Systems and Tools, EHS Training, etc.) as needed to ensure effective service delivery
