Job Description

The Tesla Energy Product and Service Engineering team is looking for a passionate and collaborative Product Engineer to support and accelerate the introduction of new Supercharger Technologies. With a mandate to maintain and improve the industry-leading uptime of the global Supercharger network while supporting an unprecedented scaling, a successful applicant will apply solid first principles and leverage data analytics collected from our connected systems across the world to proactively find and solve issues with the Supercharger fleet enabling the seamless and fast introduction of new technologies. A successful applicant will work collaboratively across our global teams to diagnose, troubleshoot, document, and train our organization to ensure our customers have the best possible experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience (experience)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a development, diagnostic or field support engineer (experience, 2 years)
  • Experience with product engineering, reliability engineering, failure analysis, systems test engineering, or product quality engineering (experience)
  • Experience using SQL, Linux based operating systems, Python, and C/C++ or equivalent (experience)
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and intuition, applied to firmware/software/hardware of connected systems (experience)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with hands on experience debugging complex systems (experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally in a collaborative manner across many teams and capacity for managing simultaneous tasks and challenges (experience)
  • Demonstrated data analytics and analysis (experience)
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical diagrams (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with charging standards is a plus (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Drive cross-functional efforts and initiatives to implement fleet improvements with the manufacturing, design, field service, technical support teams
  • Work with the wider engineering and manufacturing teams to drive design and manufacturing product improvements in both existing and future products
  • Work with field service and technical support teams to create documentation and training to support field commissioning, service actions, and to ensure consistent and stable global service operations
  • Utilize remote data analysis, fleet analytics and first principles insights to solve problems with some lab work and onsite investigations as needed
  • Troubleshoot and root cause hardware, software, and firmware issues of the global Supercharger network
