Job Description

Thermal R&D is responsible for system level thermal architecture (including radiators, refrigerant heat exchangers, compressors, fans, pumps, etc.) supporting the cabin, battery, and powertrain across all Tesla vehicles. We are seeking technically qualified and highly motivated engineers in the field of Thermal Engineering as applied to automotive Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Qualified individual will collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers to deliver innovative, best in class thermal components and systems with optimum efficiency, performance, reliability, and safety.

Skills Required

  • First-principles physics understanding of multiple engineering disciplines such as: heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and electrical fundamentalsintermediate

  • 1D modeling and CFD simulation (single phase and multiphase) of thermal components such as heat exchangers, compressors and power electronicsintermediate
  • Thermal model creation, calibration, and validationintermediate

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with developing refrigeration component and system numerical models (experience)

  • Proficiency in numerical simulation of heat and fluid flow (Icepak, Flotherm or Ansys Fluent preferred) (experience)
  • Design and build refrigeration component and system prototype; conduct hands on experiment (experience)
  • 1D modeling and CFD simulation (single phase and multiphase) of thermal components such as heat exchangers, compressors and power electronics (experience)
  • Thermal model creation, calibration, and validation (experience)
