2026 Cyber Security Apprentice – Graduate Apprenticeship in IT: Software Development (Cyber specialism)

Start Date: 07 September 2026

Salary: £24,000 per annum

Working Schedule: 37 hours per week (8 hours Monday - Thursday, 5 hours on a Friday)

As a graduate apprentice in product cyber security, you will assist in identifying and mitigating security risks throughout the product development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Supporting security assessments and threat modelling
  • Helping implement secure coding practices
  • Supporting in the rollout of secure development environments
  • Conducting vulnerability analysis on products and development environments
  • Contributing to the development of security documentation and compliance reports

You will also integrate with cross-functional teams to implement security controls on products and assist in incident response activities; all aimed at ensuring the robustness and resilience of the organisation and our products against cyber threats.

Apprenticeship Programme:

As a Cyber Security Apprentice, you will be studying at the University of Strathclyde towards a BSc in Software Development, with specialist cyber pathways for Year 3 and Year 4 of the course.  For the duration of this 4-year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our business in Glasgow.

You will be given 1 day per week in which to focus on your studies. For the other 4 days you will be working in the business, applying your university learning in a real-life engineering environment.  Apprentices will be required to attend classes on campus for 10 days annually, once a month during term-time.

Upon completion of the programme, you will move into a permanent role within Thales in Glasgow.

Requirements:

  • 4 Highers grades (BBBB) including either Maths, Computing Science or Physics
  • National 5 English at grade C or above

Need to be a resident in Scotland on or before 1 August 2026.

Please note that applicants who already hold a relevant degree will not be eligible for this programme.
