Minor War and Auxiliary (MWAV) Electrical Engineer

Regulatory Compliance Requirements

  • Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR

  • Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program

  • Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level

Position Summary

Thales is looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy.

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for engineering support of electrical and electronic systems including but not limited to marine electrical power generation and distribution systems, electric propulsion systems, controls and communications systems. This support consists of planning, overseeing and executing engineering tasks within time and cost constraints to meet the Key Performance Indicators in accordance with Thales quality and commercial guidelines

Key Areas of Responsibility  

  • Developing and reviewing electrical and electronic system technical documentation including equipment specifications, installation and maintenance job instructions;

  • Performing Life Cycle and Materiel Management functions including but not limited to investigating equipment obsolescence and material compatibility issues, and disposal management;

  • Providing technical support of deficiencies of equipment or capability;

  • Conducting technical investigations into problems associated with electrical system, equipment and/or software issues, including root cause analyses, risk assessments and solution development;

  • Manage the preparation of electrical design change documentation including manufacturing drawings, maintenance and installation instructions, and test and trials documentation;

  • Analyzing requirements associated with baseline changes to the ships configuration, equipment and software;

  • Conducting electrical load design calculations;

  • Preparing Work Packages and cost estimates;

  • Preparing documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as Original Equipment Manufacturers, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers;

  • Developing engineering plans, processes and procedures related to combat systems as well as ship based software; and

  • Defining, developing and maintaining software configuration documentation.

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Bachelor`s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, Ontario, or British Columbia, Canada;

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated professional marine work experience within the last 10 years;

  • Language: English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard;

  • Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets;

  • Experience working within a defense contract

  • Demonstrated project management experience;

  • Previous experience of the MWAV MIS (Isherwood) and Work Estimate Action Forms (WEAF) process

  • Familiar with project management tools such as Jira

  • Proficient in AutoCAD

  • Language: French

The reference Total Target Compensation(TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between

Total Target Cash (TTC) 82,593.60 - 137,756.00 CAD Annual
