Operating at the forefront of defence and security, aerospace and space, cybersecurity and digital identity, we’re driven by a mission to build a future we can all trust.

In Romania, we are advancing innovation through software engineering, research and development, delivering solutions in key markets in which Thales Group operates. Our engineers design, develop and integrate solutions that impact global industries – from fully operational systems and subsystems for naval warfare and maritime security operations, to air traffic management systems, satellite-based solutions, tactical indoor simulations, identity and biometric technologies and more.

Mission

As a Quality Assurance Manager within Thales AMS, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the AMS department’s ambition to achieve and maintain certification for the EASA Design & Production Organization. Your expertise will ensure the robustness, reliability, and compliance of delivered products and processes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and regulatory alignment with EASA and industry standards.

Activities & Responsibilities

  • Lead the deployment and monitoring of quality assurance plans to support EASA certification for the Design & Production Organization, ensuring alignment with EASA and applicable aviation and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with discipline leaders (Software Assurance, Configuration Management, Production Quality) to coach and train cross-functional teams on best practices and compliance requirements, including but not limited to software reliability, configuration management, and traceability.
  • Validate and oversee implementation of quality assurance policies, procedures, and compliance evidence, including plans for achieving regulatory requirements (e.g., DO-178, ED-109, ED-153, EN 9100, ISO 9001).
  • Evaluate conformity of deliverables based on assigned assurance and safety levels through independent inspections, audits, and review of compliance documentation.
  • Actively contribute to maturing the quality culture within AMS, supporting teams in developing, maintaining, and evidencing compliance to applicable EASA, Thales, and international standards.
  • Organize and conduct internal audits in accordance with corporate and EASA requirements; support teams during external customer, authority, and EASA audits.
  • Monitor and report any quality issues, non-conformities, or risks, recommending effective corrective and preventive actions to ensure sustained certification and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a quality interface for AMS, raising alerts as required and providing clear, actionable reporting to management.
  • Ensure consistent application of Thales management systems (such as Chorus 2.0) for all local Design & Production activities.
  • Propose and help implement risk mitigation measures in coordination with technical and production teams.

Key Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree (Master/Engineering diploma or equivalent) with at least 10 years’ experience in quality assurance management for development and/or production of safety-critical aviation systems.
  • Hands-on experience in achieving and maintaining certification with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) or other aviation regulatory bodies is a significant asset.
  • Strong background in software and/or hardware quality management, particularly in high-safety, mission-critical environments.
  • Proven expertise in applying and supporting teams to comply with Software Assurance Standards (DO-178, ED-109, ED-153); experience with EN 9100 and ISO 9001 is highly appreciated.
  • Excellent analytical, synthesis, and communication skills, with attention to detail and ability to simplify complex requirements for a technical audience.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills across technical, quality, and production teams.
  • Persuasive communicator, able to foster buy-in for quality initiatives and lead change management effectively.
