Summary

Cigna, a leading Health Services Company, is looking for a Cloud Engineering Advisor in our Individual & Family Plans (IFP) organization as a Full Stack Engineer. The team builds AWS patterns - fully architected, built and tested repeatable processes and templates. A pattern gives ready to use, tried and tested Infrastructure-as-code libraries (TF scripts), IAM policies, CI/CD config and step by step implementation guide. They enable faster time to market within guardrails of well architecture and cloud CoE practices as well as Fedramp compliance.  Applications teams use these patterns for either migrate to AWS or for green field development on AWS. A typical day for cloud engineers may be dedicated to one of the following activities- identifying patterns, building a pattern, consultation problem statement, evolution of the patterns or support to application teams in adoption of a pattern. The team closely partners with cloud Coe, Enterprise architect, EKS platform teams, Enterprise DevOps, DBAs, Information protection organization and so on. 

Job Description

As a cloud engineer, the candidate will mainly focus on mastering existing patterns and helping application teams adopt these patterns during their journey to AWS.  You will work with a highly Agile team to develop, execute, validate and maintain AWS patterns. The candidate must be passionate about cloud and is always looking to further their personal knowledge and expertise. The candidate is comfortable executing against tasks that are occasionally ambiguous but works independently to seek out the needed information and is not the type to wait for others to tell them "what to do next", but who proactively looks to fill their work queue. The ideal team member will be creative, responsive, flexible, and willing to participate in an open collaborative peer environment. The candidate enjoys working in a team of high performers, who hold each other accountable to perform to their very best and does not shy away from opportunities to provide and take feedback with team members. The candidate works towards delivering a Minimal Viable Product with proper testing, avoids scope creep, and follows Software Engineering practices as defined by Evernorth Standards. The candidate is expected to actively participate in all ceremonies like Daily Stand-ups, Grooming, review user stories & Team retrospectives. A good fit will demonstrate following traits in abundance- 

  • focuses on providing thought leadership across multiple disciplines; recognized internally as “the go-to person” for the most complex Cloud Engineering assignments. Implements organization's cloud strategy from a technical perspective, including design, planning, integration, maintenance and support of cloud architecture. Supports development and execution of cloud implementation strategy within organization's existing IT infrastructure. May work with stakeholders across organization to evaluate cloud systems and identify appropriate solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize open-source frameworks, third-party components and libraries, as well as cloud and commercial software in the design and development of solutions
  • Support and enhance existing Individual & Family Retail Health Insurance applications used by consumers as well as operations staff.
  • Build and maintain observability and SRE pattern and practices across AWS Cloud and on-prem applications and infrastructure.
  • Evaluate and design efficient & cost optimized solutions, constantly discovering cost saving opportunity and predicting cloud expense.
  • Participate in all agile ceremonies effectively.
  • Understand and practice CI/CD concepts and implementation - build automation, build pipelines, deployment automation, etc.
  • Participate and conduct code reviews with scrum teams to approve for Production deployment.
  • Establish/Improve/Maintain Proactive monitoring and management of supported assets assuring performance, availability, security, and capacity.
  • Maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with delivery partners and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a fast paced, demanding, and rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with distributed/remote teams.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Demonstrate ability to focus and prioritize work.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively for your audience.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

•       Experience building scalable and resilient applications on AWS Serverless platforms using AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, Document DB, AWS OpenSearch, ECS Fargate, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch, Event Bridge and API Gateway.

•       Working knowledge of AWS Services: Step functions, S3 storage, Cloudfront, ECS/EKS, Aurora, and AWS Networking is required.

•       Strong experience in developing and integrating RESTful web-services.

•       Experience in troubleshooting and investigating issues in test region.

•       Participate in AWS WAR sessions and suggest innovative ideas to the IFP Engineering Leads to improve the overall stability of the cloud platform.

•       CI/CD experience with build and deployment tools, e.g., Git, Jenkins etc.

•       Automation driven mindset to improve maintainability and testability.

  • Experience with Apache Spark and Kafka.
  • Strong knowledge of Data Integration (e.g. Streaming, Batch, Error and Replay) and data analysis techniques.
  • Experience developing with containers (e.g. Docker, EKS, etc.).
  • Experience with GitHub, Jenkins, and Terraform.
  • Experience with Security Concepts (e.g. API Security, Encryption, Identity, etc.).

Required Experience & Education: 

•       12+ years of overall experience with minimum 4-5 years of AWS Cloud Experience.

•       AWS Solution Architect Associate or higher Certification is preffered

Desired Experience:  

  • Engineer must be a highly motivated, well-rounded, team player and self-starter that works best in a collaborative, dynamic, agile environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral are also essential as this position will interface with remote scrum teams, business owners, enterprise architects, security, infrastructure, and end users via email, phone, IM, desktop sharing, and wiki.
  • Candidate is expected to lead by example, exhibiting technical excellence and development of expert level business domain knowledge. Influences technical direction within the ART and across ARTs.
  • Mentality towards integrating and reusing existing capabilities vs building from scratch is highly desired.
  • Ideal candidate will have relevant experience either as a consultant or working for a start-up company.
