Senior Oracle Database Engineer

Application Developer Lead Analyst

Role Overview

As a Senior Oracle Database Engineer, you will join the Cigna Technology Team supporting the Middle East region and Health Services businesses. You’ll work within an agile team responsible for maintaining and optimizing Oracle database environments—both on-premises and in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)—as well as supporting Oracle Fusion implementations and .NET-based applications.

This role is critical to ensuring the performance, security, and availability of our data platforms as we expand our digital footprint across the region.

You are a highly skilled Oracle Database Engineer with hands-on experience managing complex database environments. You’re passionate about technology, proactive in solving problems, and eager to learn new tools and platforms. You thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy working collaboratively across teams.

Core Responsibilities

  • Maintain Oracle databases across Cloud (OCI) and on-premises environments to meet organizational data storage and retrieval needs.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing, and configuration adjustments.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks such as backups, patching, and version upgrades to ensure data consistency and system integrity.
  • Implement performance monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively address performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and problems in collaboration with application teams.
  • Support schema setup, load balancing, failover, and connection management for application teams.
  • Proactively tune systems for performance and stability, ensuring SLAs are met for large-scale databases.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and troubleshooting as a Linux Systems Admin/Engineer.
  • Manage installations and configurations of Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and GoldenGate.
  • Install and manage Oracle databases in OCI and Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP) environments.
  • Implement and manage cloud networking tasks such as IPsec VPN, FastConnect, and interconnectivity between cloud and on-premises systems.
  • Apply best practices in cloud security, including identity and access management, encryption, and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data availability and business continuity.
  • Integrate and manage Microsoft Active Directory (AD) security within database environments.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of SQL Server security and access controls.
  • Monitor, trend, and tune SQL databases, including running maintenance jobs (backups, DBCCs, indexing/re-indexing).
  • Ensure SQL Server patching, installation, and backup processes are functioning as expected.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing Oracle Database solutions in production environments.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Oracle architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
  • Strong understanding of networking, storage systems, and ASM disk groups.
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, and OCI deployments.
  • Experience with SQL tuning, trace file analysis, listener logs, and alert logs.
  • Proficiency in data extraction, transformation, masking, subsetting, and loading.
  • Experience with SQL Server maintenance, performance tuning, and security.
  • Ability to estimate work effort and manage multiple tasks in parallel.

Desirable Skills

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion applications.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Exposure to finance or healthcare-related systems.
