Role Description

The Business Intelligence Analyst is a mid-level position with responsibility for obtaining, developing, and analyzing data, proving or disproving hypotheses, and developing actionable insights. The individual in this role will consult with customers to develop business requirements and provide possible solutions and approaches to their analytic needs. While expected to exhibit a significant amount of independence in interacting with business partners and in preparing analyses, the role works under the general direction of their leader and also trains, mentors, and provides work direction to associate analysts. This position develops a deep understanding of Thrivent’s products, systems, and processes.

This role will be part of the Finance & Actuarial Division’s Actuarial Services Product Team - F&A Portfolio. The BI Analyst will collaborate within a product team comprised of business intelligence analysts and engineers, partnering directly with our Finance & Actuarial Division actuaries and leaders. Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this hybrid role offers flexibility and the chance to work on high-impact projects that shape our organization's future.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with technical resources, business resources, and business owners to: 1) define specific hypotheses/questions to evaluate and analyze, or 2) gather, develop, validate, and analyze data and data requirements in support of business operations.
  • Conducts moderately complex SQL queries and works with other data extraction, reporting, and analytic tools to validate and/or develop analysis and reporting to provide insight.
  • Develops plans to evaluate hypotheses/questions and measure performance metrics across actuarial and financial portfolios.
  • Produces and maintains models and data using a variety of corporate software tools, ensuring accuracy and scalability.
  • Partners with business, IT, and customers to ensure that the design, execution, presentation, and distribution of actionable insights or data streams can be readily implemented and meets management requirements.
  • Mentors associate analysts, providing training and work direction to build team capabilities.
  • Identifies trends, anomalies, and opportunities in financial and actuarial data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Supports product team initiatives by creating dashboards, reports, and visualizations that drive business value.

A master's degree is preferred. Candidates should have 3-5 years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or a similar role, preferably in financial services or insurance. Experience in actuarial or finance environments is highly desirable. Proven track record of delivering actionable insights through data analysis is essential.
