Role Description

As a member of the Business Risk Management (BRM) leadership team, the Director, IT Audit develops and implements strategic and operational plans related to the implementation of BRM’s vision, mission, and overall goals and objectives. This senior leadership position serves as a key liaison to senior executives in Corporate divisions including Digital, Data & Technology (DD&T), Information Security and Privacy, Legal, and others. You will prepare and deliver presentations to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors when called upon, oversee BRM’s data analytics center of excellence, and manage co-sourcing relationships.

This role works closely with business leaders and BRM staff in developing and executing the BRM audit plan. You will manage and develop a high-performing team carrying out risk assessments and audit assignments. Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this position offers the opportunity to lead IT audit initiatives in a dynamic financial services environment, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like AI and advanced data analytics.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Provides support and guidance to senior business leaders in identifying, analyzing, and managing their business risks in relation to desired business objectives.
  • Leads efforts to assess risks, develop an audit plan, and conduct audit and advisory projects over information technology and related risks. Manages assurance and advisory projects within desired budgets and timelines.
  • Maintains extensive subject matter expertise in the area of IT, business environment risks, and related governance practices. Monitors and keeps abreast of industry and technology developments and risks and determines the impact on Thrivent. Makes any necessary adjustments to audit plans regarding emerging risks.
  • Works with the Head of BRM in support of departmental planning, budgeting, recruiting, and results measurement (scorecard), as well as providing the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors with relevant and useful information.
  • Leads innovation efforts within the department, such as the use of artificial intelligence in internal audit, and oversees delivery of data analytics to the BRM department.
  • Coordinates efforts with external auditors to enhance the quality of information available to them and avoid duplication of efforts, ensuring seamless integration of IT audit findings.
  • Develops and mentors staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence in IT risk management and audit practices.
  • Drives strategic initiatives to integrate advanced technologies into audit processes, positioning Thrivent as a leader in financial services IT governance.

Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in IT audit, risk management, or internal audit within financial services or regulated industries. Proven track record in senior leadership roles, managing audit teams, and interacting with executive boards and committees. Experience with data analytics centers of excellence and AI in auditing is highly desirable.

Compensation Overview
