Role Description

Thrivent is seeking a talented Engineer to join our dynamic Digital Servicing team in the United States. This team supports Thrivent’s website and mobile app, empowering members to independently view accounts, manage finances, and take actions anytime, anywhere. As an Engineer, you'll create and modify solutions to complex technology problems, including coding, testing, debugging, documenting, and maintaining robust systems. You'll lead smaller engineering efforts and contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives, partnering across departments to deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

In this role, you'll apply technical expertise to design, implement, and optimize digital solutions that enhance scalability, resilience, and user experience. Whether tackling intricate challenges or mentoring juniors, you'll play a pivotal role in elevating Thrivent's digital platforms to new heights.

Detailed Responsibilities

Designing Solutions

• Apply technical knowledge to drive customer-focused outcomes.
• Work independently to problem-solve initiatives aligned with broader engineering strategies.
• Design solutions within the core framework of team technology products.
• Participate in low-level design for product areas and team initiatives.

Implementing Solutions

• Use independent critical thinking to solve complex, customer-significant problems.
• Develop technology solutions collaboratively or independently to deliver product outcomes.
• Deliver consistent, dependable solutions meeting expectations for stability, scalability, and resilience.

Learning and Applying New Techniques

• Seek opportunities to learn emerging technologies that enhance product lifecycle and performance.

Collaborating within the Team

• Provide technical expertise in collaboration sessions to resolve problems and remove roadblocks.
• Contribute to product planning, implementation, and work decomposition.

DevOps

• Participate in team support rotations and build deep knowledge of focus subsystems.

Coaching Engineers

• Offer technical guidance to resolve software issues.
• Train and mentor junior developers for growth.

Recruiting/Building Talent

• Participate in interview processes to attract top Engineering talent.

Required Skills

We're looking for Engineers with proven expertise in modern web and mobile development. Key skills include:

• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
• Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• DevOps tools including Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Database management with SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB).
• Agile methodologies and tools like Jira or Confluence.
• Problem-solving with debugging tools and performance optimization.
• Version control expertise using Git.

Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience: 5+ years in software engineering, with 2+ years in full-stack development for web/mobile apps. Fintech or customer-facing digital platforms experience preferred. Proven track record in leading projects, mentoring teams, and delivering high-impact solutions.

Compensation Overview
