Role Description

The Market Director - Chicago is a strategic leadership role focused on driving market growth by attracting, recruiting, and developing high-quality, diverse financial professionals (FPs). Reporting to regional leadership, you will build and execute recruiting strategies, support new FP launches, and collaborate across teams to ensure long-term success. This remote position serves the Chicago market, involving approximately 3 days per week of joint field work with new FPs. Ideal for seasoned leaders passionate about talent development, financial advising, and community engagement.

The successful Market Director grows their market by attracting diverse talent into FP roles and equipping them with essential tools, resources, and knowledge for success. You'll create trusting relationships, manage candidate pipelines, coach on Thrivent's Financial Advice Process, and leverage technology like Salesforce to drive results.

Detailed Responsibilities

Attract, Recruit, and Select Diverse Talent

  • Create and implement a recruiting strategy to grow capacity by attracting and cultivating quality, diverse FP candidates in the Chicago focus market.
  • Execute a plan to recruit quality talent by developing trusting relationships within broad and diverse networks, leveraging centers of influence, and obtaining referrals from FPs.
  • Partner with Thrivent leaders and key stakeholders to develop capacity plans and understand recruiting and selection systems.
  • Actively manage a pipeline of high-quality, diverse candidates.
  • Conduct selection interviews and assess candidates for high probability of success.
  • Create followership by demonstrating enthusiasm for the career and Thrivent while caring about others' success.

Develop New FPs and Support the Launch of New FP Practices

  • Demonstrate mastery of the Thrivent Financial Advice Process and coach on all elements.
  • Conduct high levels of joint field work (approx. 3 days per week) to observe, offer feedback, and assist with case preparation.
  • Model and coach on the use of Salesforce, CAP, Illustrations, and other Thrivent tools during the sales process.
  • Meet regularly with new FPs to develop goals, discuss progress, analyze challenges, and identify solutions.
  • Collaborate with FPs to develop and execute marketing plans leveraging natural markets, referrals, and communities.

Collaborate with Others

  • Inform leadership on FP progress toward goals and success metrics.
  • Facilitate connections between new and veteran FPs for joint field work and practice experiences.
  • Connect with corporate resources for best practices impacting recruiting, launch, and veteran support.
  • Use technology effectively to coach and train FPs.
  • Build plans with the Community Engagement team to grow the market and identify key communities.

Required Skills

Success in this role requires a blend of recruiting expertise, coaching mastery, and collaborative leadership. Key skills include strategic planning, relationship building, and proficiency in financial tools.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial services, recruiting, or sales leadership.
  • Proven track record in talent acquisition and development, ideally in financial advising.
  • Experience in the Chicago market or Illinois financial sector is a plus.
  • Series 6, 7, 63, and 66 licenses (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong understanding of financial planning and advice processes.

Role Description
