Role Description

As the Engineering Manager for Finance and Actuarial Technology at Thrivent, you will provide strategic direction and technical leadership for a diverse technology portfolio supporting critical financial and actuarial processes. Detailed Responsibilities

Designing Solutions

  • Review technical solution designs and architectures, providing expert guidance and direction to ensure alignment with business needs and scalability.
  • Participate in system design and architecture conversations with cross-functional teams to define optimal approaches for delivering robust solutions.
  • Review and support execution of technical solutions, including seamless integration of Kafka topics, Informatica workflows, and Java-based applications for financial data processing.

Developing Software

  • Demonstrate hands-on expertise in software development, conducting thorough code reviews to maintain code quality and security.
  • Stay current with evolving coding best practices, industry standards, and financial regulations to guide team practices.
  • Apply strong problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve complex technical challenges in production environments.

Learning and Applying New Techniques

  • Promote and empower knowledge sharing, best practices, and innovation sessions, carving out dedicated time for teams to explore emerging technologies.
  • Anticipate technology trends, analyze their impact on financial and actuarial operations, and recommend strategic adoptions.

Collaborating Within Team

  • Foster strong team collaboration, mentoring engineers, and building agile pods that deliver iteratively.
  • Partner with product owners, business stakeholders, and actuarial teams to prioritize features and resolve impediments.
  • Drive DevOps initiatives, including automation, monitoring, and infrastructure as code, to enhance delivery velocity and reliability.
