Role Description

Thrivent is hiring a MGR, Engineering – Workforce Identity & Access Management to provide strategic direction to the Identity Engineering Integrations (IEI) team within our IAM organization. This leadership role accomplishes results through managing experienced specialists who exercise significant latitude and independence. You'll deeply understand and empathize with the engineering community, building solutions that empower seamless integration of authentication, secrets management, and industry-leading best practices.

Key focus areas include privilege management, certificate lifecycle management, secrets management, and conditional access policies for secure, scalable identity solutions. Develop budgets, schedules, and team objectives aligned with organizational goals. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, senior business partners, and lead briefings to advance IAM objectives. Ideal for cybersecurity leaders passionate about reducing developer friction while enforcing robust security in cloud-native environments.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Identity Engineering Integrations (IEI) team, providing direction, mentorship, and support for successful delivery of integration projects and automation initiatives.
  • Drive development and implementation of IAM integration solutions, including automation for certificate lifecycle management, secrets health monitoring, and onboarding workflows for privileged access management tools.
  • Champion the engineering community by empathizing with their needs, designing integration patterns, tools, and guidance to embed authorization, secrets management, and privileged access controls into applications without compromising agility or security.
  • Oversee design and optimization of integration frameworks connecting IAM services with enterprise applications, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and security monitoring tools like DataDog.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in IT, cybersecurity, and business to align IEI initiatives with organizational objectives, improving security posture and operational efficiency.
  • Develop budgets, schedules, and metrics derived from enterprise goals; conduct briefings and technical meetings to support IAM objectives.
  • Enforce conditional access policies, privilege management, and scalable identity solutions to mitigate risks in a dynamic financial services landscape.
  • Monitor team performance, foster innovation in IAM integrations, and ensure compliance with industry standards like NIST and SOC 2.

  • Deep empathy for developer workflows and frictionless security integrations

Education & Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 8+ years in identity engineering, IAM integrations, or cybersecurity, with 5+ years in management.
  • Proven track record leading engineering teams in financial services or regulated industries.
  • Hands-on experience with modern IAM solutions and cloud-native architectures.

Preferred: CISSP, CISM, or GIAC certifications; experience in fintech cybersecurity.

Compensation Overview
