Role Description

As a Senior Engineer on our Experience Engineering Platform Team, you’ll design and build tools that empower other engineering teams to work more efficiently, focusing on continuous deployment, test automation, and DevOps solutions. You’ll administer, steward, and guide our multi-language software monorepo serving multiple organizations, adding to its abilities to build, deploy, and monitor a wide variety of business- and client-facing applications. This role is highly collaborative and autonomous, requiring someone who can architect scalable solutions, bring fresh perspectives, and drive key initiatives. You’ll be a technical expert supporting multiple internal product teams, leveraging your DevOps experience to deliver impactful software. Detailed Responsibilities

Designing Solutions

• Apply technical knowledge to drive outcomes for customers
• Work and problem-solve independently on initiatives that align to the broader software engineering strategy

Developing Software

• Serve as a member of the team that can work independently, as well as collaboratively, in developing core software for the product that delivers outcomes
• Be consistent and dependable in delivering core software that meets or exceeds the team's expectations for stability, scalability, resilience, etc.

Learning and Applying New Techniques

• Share new ideas and techniques with the team; encourage junior engineers to invest in learning as part of their job

Collaborating within the Team

• Participate in team’s collaboration sessions to provide technical expertise to solve problems or remove technical roadblocks
• Participate in product planning and implementation; help the team understand and decompose work

Defining Engineering Standards and Patterns

• Contribute to developing engineering practices, templates, and frameworks in collaboration with the team

DevOps Excellence

• Continuously assess technology to build more stable, scalable, and resilient software; use data to measure progress
• Promote and expand the use of the CI/CD pipeline to improve deployment and build processes
• Participate in the team support rotation and provide expert knowledge on focus subsystems

Selecting & Managing Technology Vendors

• Contribute to defining selection criteria for choosing the right technology vendors
• Evaluate and manage vendor relationships to ensure alignment with Thrivent's technical standards and goals

In this role, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance our monorepo capabilities, implement advanced monitoring, and optimize deployment pipelines for high-traffic applications. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency of engineering teams delivering client-facing solutions.

Required Skills

We seek candidates with proven expertise in modern DevOps practices and software engineering. Key skills include:

• Advanced proficiency in CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
• Experience managing large-scale monorepos (e.g., Bazel, Nx, Lerna)
• Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Cloud platform expertise (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Automation scripting (Python, Bash, Go)
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm)
• Monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack)
• Test automation frameworks
• Multi-language build systems (Java, Node.js, Python, etc.)

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ years in DevOps or platform engineering
• Demonstrated success in building and maintaining production-grade CI/CD systems
• Experience supporting multiple product teams in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for mentoring others

Compensation Overview
