Role Description

The Sr Product Owner - Legal & Compliance works on a cross-functional team to create meaningful, simple, and compliant experiences for customers and internal users across Thrivent’s Legal & Compliance ecosystem. This role serves as the primary steward of the Legal & Compliance Response & Risk Management product group, focused on improving the speed, clarity, and effectiveness of legal and compliance responses for employees, field leaders, customers, prospects, and regulators. Key products include Legal and Compliance Intake & Response, Regulatory & Policy Knowledge Management, Regulatory Risk Management, and Regulatory Response.

Partnering closely with the Product Director, Legal & Compliance, you will translate product vision and portfolio strategy into actionable roadmaps, prioritized backlogs, and high-quality delivery. Representing the Legal & Compliance domain, you'll ensure solutions enable timely regulatory response, effective monitoring, and scalable compliance operations. Collaborate with legal, compliance, risk, technology, and business stakeholders to rapidly deliver value, continuously evolve the product, and align with enterprise priorities, regulatory obligations, and Thrivent’s purpose and values.

Detailed Responsibilities

• Work as a key team member on a cross-functional team, responsible for continuous delivery of value through compelling and empowering customer experiences.
• Collaborate with Product Manager and stakeholders to align work prioritization with Thrivent’s priorities, product roadmap, and provide development feedback. Develop and socialize product strategy with senior leaders.
• Continuously innovate and evolve the product in alignment with strategic priorities; create, maintain, and evolve the product roadmap.
• Maintain and refine product backlog: Create user stories and acceptance criteria, prioritize stories for maximum business value aligned with product strategy.
• Ensure stories clearly communicate customer and stakeholder needs to meet key business objectives; consult during agile team planning and grooming sessions, coach team members on effective practices.
• Act as the voice of the customer and business within the agile team, facilitating alignment on product direction and outcomes.
• Monitor product performance, gather feedback, and iterate to drive continuous improvement in legal and compliance capabilities.
• Partner with technology teams to modernize technical capabilities, ensuring scalability and efficiency in response and risk management.
• Champion regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and operational excellence across Thrivent's ecosystem.

Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, Information Technology, or related field required. Master’s degree, Agile certification (CSPO, PSPO), or PMP preferred.

Experience: 7+ years in product ownership, product management, or business analysis roles, with 3+ years in legal, compliance, or regulatory-focused products. Proven track record in agile environments within financial services or regulated industries. Experience modernizing compliance systems and delivering value in cross-functional teams essential.
